The city of Fond du Lac is considering a tax incremental finance district to help with the Forest Mall redevelopment project. The city council met in closed session last week to discuss a potential agreement. The owner is converting the center portion of the mall into a Meijer supercenter, with demolition of other portions of the mall. Demolition of the former J.C. Penny and Sears Department Store buildings started last July. Community Development director Dyann Benson says in the end the mall will be replaced with a Meijer SuperCenter and gas station/convenience store.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
