A portion of East Fifth Street in Fond du Lac was closed to traffic Friday after police received reports of possible gunshots fired. Shortly after 11am police were called to the scene after a resident reported hearing what they thought were three gunshots. Police blocked off a portion of Fifth Street while officers canvassed the area, going to door to door looking for evidence. There were no reports of any injuries. Officers recovered some shell casing evidence in the 100 block of E. Fifth Street. The scene was cleared shortly before 1pm.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
