There were a record number of opioid overdose deaths in Fond du Lac last year. Fond du Lac Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says paramedics responded to 17 suspected opioid overdose deaths in 2020. O’Leary says more than 60 lives were saved with the use of NARCAN. O’Leary says he believes the pandemic was clearly a factor in the spike in cases. O’Leary says he wants people who have a drug addiction or mental illness to know they are not alone and that there is help available. In addition to the overdose deaths in the city of Fond du Lac, there were 16 heroin overdoses in Fond du Lac County and five deaths.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
