A former North Fond du Lac Fire Chief has been arrested in Texas on child pornography charges. Fifty four year old Paul Nelson is being held in jail in Port Neches, Texas, on $25,000 bail on two counts of Possession of Child pornography. Nelson is the Fire Chief in Port Neches. Nelson was arrested Wednesday morning in a joint operation with the Port Neches Police Department and the Texas Attorney General’s Child Exploitation unit. Investigators say Nelson is accused of sending illegal images on social media. Nelson has been the fire chief for five years. He was the Fire Chief in North Fond du Lac from 2008 to 2012, leaving to become the Fire Chief in DeForest, Wisconsin. He was the president of the Wisconsin Fire Chief’s Association in 2014-15.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
