Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire after bales of straw in a dump truck caught on fire in Waupun. Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa says there was smoke and flames visible from the truck box when firefighters arrived Monday afternoon. DeMaa says 20 bales of straw were destroyed by the fire which was contained to the dump truck box. DeMaa says the driver apparently forgot to turn off the box heater before transporting the load, causing heat to build up, starting the fire.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
