The chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County has been unanimously re-elected to the post. Rohn Bishop was re-elected during the party’s annual caucus last week. Bishop says it felt especially good because of the heat he had taken from some members of his own party for speaking out in favor of mail-in voting before the election, and then rejecting allegations by the Trump campaign that the election had been stolen. “It did. It really did,” Bishop told WFDL news. “Even though I’ve had those two disagreements, I still campaigned and put in a lot of time for the Trump re-election effort and for all the Republicans that were on the ballot.” In fact, Bishop admits that just before Christmas he was seriously considering stepping down as chairman. He admits some of the criticism he was taking was hurtful. But Bishop says he changed his mind when fellow Republicans encouraged him to stay on. “A lot of local Republicans were reaching out to me saying we want you to stay right where you’re at, we’re coming to the caucus to make sure you have no problem getting re-elected,” Bishop said. “People can disagree with me on an issue here and there. The reason I take these positions is I’m very passionate about the Republican party. I want it to be successful.” Bishop says you don’t win in politics by shrinking the tent, you win by expanding the number of people in the tent.
