MADISON, Wis. (AP) — David Villa, the head of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, has died at age 66. The board announced Monday that Villa died on Saturday. JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Authorities say two people died when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville. DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Ice coverage on Lake Superior has increased by nearly 25% over the past week thanks to the long stretch of subfreezing temperatures. The lake was experiencing historically low percentages of ice in January. According tot he National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, that changed Monday when nearly 32% of the lake had ice. 2-16-21 rosendale brandon school board votes to close brandon middle school

The Rosendale-Brandon School Board has voted in favor of a  plan to close the Brandon Middle School, sending those students to Rosendale.   The vote was six to three and after the meeting one board member turned in his resignation.   Superintendent Wayne Weber say the consolidation plan is in response to  a projected 30% drop in enrollment over the next four years.   School officials say the consolidation, including eliminating some positions could save the district […]

2-16-21 car fire-fleet farm gas station

A good samaritan helped Fond du Lac firefighters responding to a car fire at the Fleet Farm gas station Monday afternoon.  Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle on fire near the gas pumps.  A driver with a snow plow used the plow blade to push the vehicle away from pumps and firefighters extinguished the fire.  Nobody was injured. https://twitter.com/i/status/1361511893312172032

2-16-21 torpedo heater apparently to blame for fdl garage fire

A propane torpedo heater appears to be the cause of a fire that destroyed a garage in Fond du lac last week.   Firefighters were called to the scene on East 12th Street between Marr and Main Streets Friday afternoon.  Fire chief Pete O’Leary says the fire does not appear to be suspicious.   O’Leary says the bitter cold makes it difficult for firefighters.   Nobody was injured in the fire.
