2-25-21 dnr sued over enforcement of pollution cleanup laws

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is being sued over its enforcement of environmental protection laws. The state’s largest industry lobby, Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, and an Oconomowoc dry cleaner, Leather Rich, have filed a lawsuit in Waukesha County Circuit Court seeking to block the DNR from requiring cleanup of unregulated “emerging contaminants,” including PFAS or so-called “forever chemicals” that have polluted groundwater across the state. The CEO of the Wisconsin Hospital Association is calling for more urgency from those responsible for COVID-19 vaccine production and distribution.  Eric Borgerding says Wisconsin hospitals can vaccinate many more people, but the supply isn’t keeping up with demand.  Borgerding tells WFDL news vaccination appointments are being cancelled or delayed because they are not receiving enough vaccine for their communities.  Borgerding says the supply coming into Wisconsin increased this week, with about 115,000 […]

2-25-21 fdl fire and rescue reaccredited agency

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue has become an internationally reaccredited agency.  Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says there are only six fire departments in the state that are accredited.  The Commission on Fire Accreditation International voted unanimously this week to grant accredited status for Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue.   Accreditation using peer assessments and evaluation are used as benchmarks to ensure departments are delivering quality, sound and innovative services.

U.S. Senator Ron Johnson and Congressman Glenn Grothman have introduced companion bills asking president Joe Biden to award the Medal of Honor to the late Lt. Col.
