The Fond du Lac County Sheriff says a domestic violence suspect fired a gunshot inside his house during an argument with his girlfriend prior to an armed standoff with deputies where he shot and killed himself. Deputies were called to the 29 year old man’s St. Peter area home early Sunday morning after the 36 year old woman fled the home and dialed 911. The suspect fled, hiding in the trunk of a friend’s car before it was pulled over a short time later, and then brandished a handgun when confronted by deputies. Deputies attempted to negotiate with the subject for several minutes before he turned the gun on himself. He was pronounced dead at an area trauma center. Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an independent investigation of the traffic stop but says he is confident deputies acted properly.
