4-29-21 fdl lighthouse point restaurant idea all but dead

todayApril 29, 2021

The idea of a restaurant near the Lighthouse at Fond du lac’s Lakeside Park  doesn’t appear likely after Wednesday night’s city council meeting.  The Fond  du Lac city council voted to direct city staff to pause any work on an alternate master plan for two weeks until the council decides whether to exit an enhancement agreement with a business group, or  try to reach a compromise.    Newly elected councilmember Patrick Mullen says elections have consequences and things are going to change.  “Things have changed and we’re going to work forward under this new reality and try to come up with a compromise that people can support,”  Mullen told WFDL news.  Council president Kay Miller  suggested one compromise may be to relocate a restaurant to the east side of Oven Island.  New councilmember Tiffany Brault says she’s glad the council is finally giving citizens a voice on the project.  “I’m interested to see what Lakeside Forward has to say about it before we make any concrete decisions,” Brault said.  “I don’t feel that the building on Lighthouse Point is going to be a reality based on the conversation tonight.”   The council discussed the potential for exiting a contract with the business group in closed session.  Three newly elected councilmembers ran on a platform of exiting the agreement and holding a referendum on any development at the park.
