A spokesman for Fond du Lac’s Mercury Marine says a new economic impact study provides a level of excitement and satisfaction. The study, commissioned by Envision Greater Fond du Lac, shows that Merc has an annual $5 billion economic impact on the Fond du Lac community. While many companies have struggled during the pandemic, Merc spokesman Lee Gordon says Merc actually thrived. Gordon says when many events were cancelled last summer boating became one of the true socially distant activities that people could still do. Gordon says demand for Merc engines and boating in general has reached levels not seen since before the recession. Gordon says Merc has been hiring like he has never seen before, and now employs nearly four thousand people, the most in the company’s 83 year history.
