The Fond du Lac city council got it’s first look at next year’s Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue budget at their meeting Wednesday night. In addition to six new firefighter/paramedics approved by voters in an April referendum, a proposed budget will include several maintenance items including a new back apron concrete surface for the South Main Street Fire Station. Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says the budget also calls for a new roof at Station One.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
