The Fond du Lac County Health Department is encouraging private well owners to check that their water is safe, if they haven’t already done so this year. August is National Water Quality month. Fond du Lac County Health Department Environmental Health supervisor Danielle Vollendorf says the Health Department offers bacteria and nitrate testing for $30 or $15 per test. The Health Department also provides information on tests for lead, arsenic and other metals, chemicals and contaminants.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
