8-20-21 waupun stormwater runoff mandate

The city of Waupun hopes to get an extension to meet a state DNR mandate to reduce pollutants from stormwater runoff.   City administrator Kathy Schlieve says in 2017 the city identified the need for 21 retention ponds  at a cost of $9 million.  Schlieve says under the city’s current permit, which  ends in 2024, the city would need to invest about $5 million to build five retention ponds.  Schlieve says  that is something […]

The Fond du Lac County Health Department is encouraging private well owners to check that their water is safe, if they haven’t already done so this year.   August is National Water Quality month.  Fond du Lac County Health Department Environmental Health supervisor Danielle Vollendorf says the Health Department offers bacteria and nitrate testing for $30 or $15 per test.  The Health Department also provides information on tests for lead, arsenic and other metals, […]

8-20-21 wi unemployment rate holds steady

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development reports that Wisconsin’s unemployment rate remained at 3.9% in July for the fourth month in a row. The nationwide unemployment rate in July was 5.4%. A year ago, in July 2020, the Wisconsin unemployment rate was 7.2%. The state reported Thursday that Wisconsin added 12,400 private sector jobs in July, bringing the total to 196,200 more than a year ago.

(AP) — About 130 former workers at window and door manufacturer in Merrill are receiving payments from a $650,000 settlement with the company reached after the Wisconsin Department of Justice sued. The lawsuit filed in February alleged that Semling-Menke Company, Inc., failed to provide employees with the required 60-days notice it was ceasing business operations.
