MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Enrollment at University of Wisconsin System schools dropped 1% this fall compared with a year ago when it was down 2%. The university reported the preliminary figures on Wednesday. Enrollment was up 6% at the flagship Madison campus, an increase of 2,564 students over last year. 9-23-21 area unemployment rate holds steady

The area unemployment rate held steady in August.   The Dodge County unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.3 percent.   The unemployment rate in Fond  du Lac County was 3.5 percent, the same as the month before.   The jobless rate in the city of Fond du Lac dipped a tenth of a percent to 4.1 percent.

9-23-21 national child passenger safety week

Car crashes are the leading safety issue for children.   According to the latest figures from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 183,000 children were injured in car crashes in 2018.   State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmusz says that's an average of more than 500 injuries a day.  Jarmusz says many injuries are deaths are preventable if children are properly restrained in the vehicle.  Jarmusz says the problem is new data from AAA and […]

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Imagine if Aaron Rodgers was playing for the San Francisco 49ers instead of the Green Bay Packers when the two teams face off Sunday night. 9-23-21 man critically injured in fdl bicycle crash

Fond du Lac police are investigating how a bicyclist was critically injured Wednesday morning.   Shortly before noon Wednesday rescue personnel were called to North Military Road and Sibley Street for a report of a  middle aged man on the ground bleeding.   When paramedics arrived on the scene a St. Agnes Hospital emergency room physician was already there providing initial care.   The victim was flown by helicopter to ThedaCare Medical Center in Neenah.

9-22-21 waupun apartment fire

Unattended cooking started  a fire that damaged a kitchen in a Waupun apartment.  Shortly before 10pm Tuesday Waupun firefighters were called to 1105 Rock Avenue for a report of a fire in a first-floor kitchen.   The apartment tenant used a fire extinguisher prior to the fire department’s arrival which helped contain the fire damage to the kitchen.  The rest of the apartment sustained smoke damage.   Nobody was injured.

9-22-21 fdl school board appoints two new board members

The Fond du Lac School Board has two new members.  The Board has appointed Todd Schreiter and Brittany Hoerth to fill the vacancies created by the resignations of Mark Strand and Nick Tiefke.    Both Schreiter and Hoerth ran unsuccessfully for the school board in the last election.  The board interviewed 11 candidates before making their selections at a meeting Tuesday night.
