The Fond du Lac School District is hiring additional security officers for the High School following a fight at the school last week. The Fond du Lac School Board approved the hiring of up to four unarmed civilian security officers at their meeting Monday evening. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says the additional security is necessary to provide a better response in the event of any future altercations. Dr. Fleig says the additional officers would provide hallway supervision, as well as outside the school to ensure that students are safe getting to class and while students are passing between class, and to assist the high school administration during emergency situations. Dr. Fleig says the High School cannot have a small number of students mess up the school day for the rest of the students. The $150,000 cost to hire four security officers will come out of the District’s general operating budget. Nobody was seriously injured and eleven students have been suspended following the October 5 fight at the school. One of the students was criminally charged in court last week.
