The state Department of Criminal Investigation has been called to investigate a fire that damaged a restaurant owned by a Fond du Lac city councilmember. Fire Chief Pete O’Leary says the Fond du Lac Police Department agreed to the DCI investigation, given that the business, A Family Affair Soul Food Kitchen, is operated by city councilmember Arletta Allen. “Obviously Ms. Allen is on our city council and I think from a transparency standpoint and overall having a neutral party involved in the investigation DCI is going to do that,” O’Leary told WFDL news. “I fully support that.” O’Leary says it appears the fire started on the main floor in the back of the business, causing extensive smoke and heat damage. He says at this point the cause is unknown. Firefighters responded to the scene shortly before 9:30pm Sunday.
