10-22-21 wolf hunt quota

todayOctober 21, 2021

The founder of a pro-wolf group says there should not be any wolf hunt this fall.  Friends of Wisconsin Wolf and Wildlife director Melissa Smith says she believes the public is opposed to a wolf hunt after hunters blew past their quota earlier this year.  The DNR this month set a quota of 130 wolves for the fall hunt, rejecting a move by its own polcy board to more than double the amount of wolves that can be harvested.  Smith says until the DNR can prove that 130 number is not arbitrary, there should not be a hunt this fall.  The DNR says state law authorizes the agency to make the final call on a quota for the hunt that’s set to begin November 6.
