todayNovember 12, 2021

Rosenow Elementary School recently received a $1,000 grant from Superior Diesel to provide calming corners in all 30 classrooms at their school.    The purpose of a calming corner is to teach and support students’ emotional regulation strategies. The funding will allow the school to purchase the materials needed to create the calming corners such as: soft-covered chairs, sand timers, fidgets, therapeutic putty, social skills storybooks, crayons,  clipboards, plastic bins or shelving, and noise-cancelling headphones.   “The calming corner makes me feel good,”  Christian Rodriguez, a third grade student at Rosenow said .  “It helps me when I’m really upset and can’t think too much.  The tools help me concentrate and focus, like the pop-its and the circle chair.”
“Calming corners are a designated space located within  the classroom so students can have a safe place to go  when they need a break,”  Teacher on Special Assignment at Rosenow Elementary School. Barb Korneli-Krueger said.    “Calming corners help children to practice identifying feelings and emotions to manage stress, self-regulate and control their impulses.  They help all students have a sense of belonging.”
