12-1-21 christmas scams-better business bureau

With 2021 quickly winding down, scams targeting the public continue to cause trouble.  The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau has a Naughty List with the top 12 scams of Christmas that are most likely to catch consumers and donors off guard.  Northeast Regional director with the BBB of Wisconsin Susan Bach says at the top of the list are misleading social media ads.   Other scams include social media gift exchanges, holiday apps, alerts about compromised accounts, free gift card offers, look-alike websites, fake charities and fake shipping notifications and puppy scams.  Bach says when ordering online  do your homework and research the company before ordering.  If you are asked to make a payment or donation by wire or e-transfer through third parties by prepaid debit or gift cards, treat this as a red flag.
