12-1-21 senator johnson continues to push for legislative control of federal elections

Republican U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is continuing his push to have the Republican-controlled state legislature take over control of federal elections.  Johnson made the comments last week on AM 1170s Between the Lines program.  “The legislature ought to reassert it’s control over federal elections to restore confidence.  The goal is that every Wisconsinite has confidence regardless of the outcome that the result of the election is legitimate,”  Johnson told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.  Johnson’s proposal takes direct aim at the Wisconsin Elections Commission that has been under attack from Republicans since the 2020 presidential election.  Assembly Speaker Robin Vos has said he has not studied whether Wisconsin legislators could take control of federal elections without the governor’s input.  Senate Majority leader Devin LeMahieu, has expressed doubts about senator Johnson’s legal theory.
