A Fond du Lac man has been arrested for his fifth drunken driving offense. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol responded last week to a crash on Kinker Road west of Highway 45 for a vehicle that struck a piece of Fond du lac County Highway Department equipment. A highway crew worker had leapt from the piece of machinery just before it was struck by the vehicle. Prior to law enforcement arriving, the driver fled the scene on foot but was located by witnesses nearby. When being interviewed by State Patrol personnel, he admitted to being the driver in the crash. Forty seven year old Tony Schumacher was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense. Schumacher who was out on bond for a previous OWI arrest was booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail. Other charges may be referred pending the outcome of the crash investigation.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
