The president of Envision Greater Fond du Lac says while the latest unemployment numbers are good news, they don’t necessarily reflect the continued labor shortage impacting employers. The October unemployment rate in both Dodge and Fond du Lac counties is under two percent, below pre-pandemic levels. Envision Greater Fond du Lac president Sadie Parafiniuk says she doesn’t know if the rate can go much lower. Parafiniuk says its good to see the unemployment rate continue to drop, but says area employers are still struggling to find workers.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
