A Fond du Lac man has been arrested for starting a fire that caused extensive damage to a Fond du Lac home. Shortly after 3pm Tuesday firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from the attic at 302 N. Macy St. Upon arrival fire crews encountered heavy fire conditions on the first floor of the single family residence. The fire was quickly extinguished but not before it caused extensive damage to the home. The lone resident was able to escape without injury. A 40 year old Fond du Lac man was arrested and faces charges of arson and criminal damage to property.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
