12-10-21 fdl saint agnes hospital struggling with covid-19 patients

The president of Fond du Lac’s St. Agnes Hospital says it’s been a challenge to address the recent surge in COVID-19 patients and says at least 90-percent of the COVID paitents are not vaccinated.    Katherine Vergos says 30 people are hospitalized in Fond du Lac County with COVID-19.  Vergos says most of the COVID-19 patients hospitalized are in ICU.  Vergos says  that makes it difficult to find beds for other patients.  “We are experiencing here at St. Agnes Hospital, but also at our hospitals in in Ripon and Waupon, extremely high patient volume,”  Vergos told WFDL news.  “We’re seeing an increase in hospitalized COVID-19 patients and we are now in flu season.”   Vergos says there are active flu cases in Fond du Lac which adds an additonal stressor on the need for beds.   Vergos says while patients needing emergency care will never be turned away, some patients have had to be transferred outside of the community:
