12-15-21 inflation up

todayDecember 15, 2021

A retired Ripon College economist says the continued jump in inflation is concerning but there are signs the high prices may be peaking.   Prices for U.S. consumers  jumped 6.8 percent in November compared with a year earlier as surging costs for food, energy, housing and other items left Americans enduring their highest annual inflation rate since 1982.  Economist Paul Schoofs says there are signs the pace of demand is starting to decrease as supply chain problems begin to ease including energy and fuel.  Inflation has intensified pressure on consumers, especially lower-income households and particularly for everyday necessities.  It has also negated the higher wages many workers have received.
