The Fond du Lac city councilmember who was behind the unsuccessful push to build a restaurant near the Lakeside Park Lighthouse is not running for re-election. Ben Giles has filed his non-candidacy papers. Incumbent Arletta Allen, who also supported the controversial alternative master plan at Lakeside Park is also not running for re-election and recently posted on Facebook that she is moving to Texas. Five challengers, Thomas Schuessler, Brett Zimmerman, Jane Ricchio, Tom Strizek and Kenneth Cassaday and incumbent Donna Richards are circulating nomination papers for four open seats on council. Council president Kay Miller is not running because of term limits.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
