12-21-21 dometic policy package stalls

todayDecember 21, 2021

A retired Ripon College economist says a key Democratic holdout to president Biden’s sweeping domestic policy package is wrong on his fears the roughly $2 trillion bill would cause more inflation.  Democrats were hoping to send the bill to the president’s desk by Christmas.  But Biden does not yet have the votes.   Economist Paul Schoofs says the bill has stalled in large part because of opposition from one holdout:  Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.   Schoofs says Democrats are upset  Manchin was pushing to eliminate the bill’s renewal of expanded benefits under the child tax credit, a keystone of Democratic efforts to reduce child poverty.  Biden says  he is confident the package will eventually pass.
