A Fond du Lac man has been arrested for starting a fire that caused extensive damage to a  Fond du Lac home.   Shortly after 3pm Tuesday firefighters were called to a report of smoke coming from the attic at 302 N. The Fond du Lac Dock Spiders baseball team is sharing in nearly $3 million provided to 17 minor league teams across the state utilizing federal pandemic relief funding.  State Department of Administration secretary Joel Brennan presented the Dock Spiders with a $200,000 check Tuesday to help the team recoup revenue that was lost during 2020 in the midst of the pandemic.  "The minor league and sport franchises in Wisconsin are about […]

Governor Tony Evers has signed  a bill to establish an agriculture and agribusiness export program.   The bill will require the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection to work with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to create a plan and achieve export objectives by the end of June 2026.  The bill's author, Republican state senator Joan Ballweg says objectives include spending $2.5 million on increasing the value of Wisconsin's milk and […]

12-8-21 stopgap spending bill

A retired Ripon College economist says congress is kicking the can down the road with a stopgap funding bill.   Economist Paul Schoofs says the bill passed last week by the senate, and earlier by the House, avoids a short-term shutdown and funds the federal government through February 18.  The agreement keeps the government running for 11 more weeks, generally at current spending levels, while adding $7 billion to aid Afghan evacuees.
