Fueled by the highly contagious Omicron variant Fond du Lac County has seen an explosion of positive COVID-19 cases this week. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says 475 cases were confirmed Wednesday up from 345 on Tuesday. Mueller says hopefully the numbers will start to go down in a couple of weeks. “I don’t think this is the peak,” Mueller told WFDL news. It really depends on who is experiencing symptoms and getting tested.” The number of positive cases in the last couple of days are by far the largest numbers recorded since the beginning of the pandemic. Mueller says in many cases entire families are testing positive.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
