A retired Ripon College economist says the latest unemployment figures across Wisconsin are historic. Several areas, including Fond du Lac and Dodge counties reported record-low unemployment numbers in November. Economist Paul Schoofs says a fair number of people who if it were not for the pandemic would be looking for work are not. “Those are truly remarkable and unheard of,” Schoofs told WFDL news. “We have never seen unemployment rates that low in the most booming of booms we’ve had in our history of American economy.”

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
