With an arctic air mass settling in over Wisconsin ReadyWisconsin is urging everyone to take steps to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Katie Rousonelos with Ready Wisconsin says the extremely cold air will lead to dangerous conditions that can affect people and pets in a matter of minutes. Rousonelos says pets and livestock can get frostbite if exposed to the elements. In your home check your furnace to make sure it is working properly. Do not attempt to use gasoline, propane heaters or a grill to heat your home or garage. Make sure water pipes in unheated areas are properly insulated.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
