A Fond du Lac man has been charged with possession of child pornography. Forty three year old Rudy Oropeza made his initial Fond du Lac court appearance this week on three counts of possession of child pornography. Bail was set at $20,000 cash. Oropeza was arrested after police executed a search warrant at a Seventh Street residence after receiving a Cybertip from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children alleging possession and or distribution of sexually explicit videos of children. Police say additional referrals for charges are anticipated pending a forensic analysis of the digital evidence seized during this investigation. Oropeza has a criminal history through Wisconsin and Texas. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 18.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
