2-18-22 sturgeon spearing season update

todayFebruary 17, 2022

The sturgeon spearing season ended this week on the Upriver Lakes, but is likely to last the full 16 days on Lake Winnebago.  DNR  Senior Fisheries biologist Aaron O’Connell says while there are some big fish out there, the trend has been toward leaner fish.  “Our percentage of fish weighing 100 pounds or greater is right around where it was last year,”  O’Connell told WFDL news.  “Biggest fish harvested so far in the Winnebago System was a 150.1 pound fish.”   An aerial shanty count found nearly six thousand shacks on Lake Winnebago, and O’Connell  many are clustered on the northern half of the lake.
