2-23-22 fdl county highway crews work long hours to treat ice-covered roads

todayFebruary 22, 2022

Fond du Lac County Highway crews were working long hours, struggling to keep up with freezing rain and sleet causing treacherous travel on area roads Monday night and Tuesday.  Highway commissioner Tom Janke says freezing rain events are much more difficult for salt crews than clearing roads of snow.  “We’ve had trucks literally slide down hills, in some cases they try to back up the hills,”  Janke told WFDL news.  Janke says most of the trucks had chains on the tires to help with navigation.  “It doesn’t come that often, but when you get freezing rain it’s not good.”
