Nobody was injured in a fire in the wood shop at the Waupun junior/senior high school. All students had been removed from the shop area when firefighters arrived shortly after 3:30pm Tuesday to find smoke coming from the dust collector outside the wood shop. Crews quickly knocked down the fire in the dust collector, and extinguished a fire still smoldering in a drum sander machine in the shop. The fire is believed to have started in the drum sander. Damage was contained to the dust collector and the drum sander.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
