The city of Fond du Lac is sharing in more than $200 million awarded by the state to provide affordable housing and economic development efforts. Governor Tony Evers made a stop at the Commonwealth Companies on South Brooke Street to present city manager Joe Moore with a $3.6 million Neighborhood Investment Fund Grant check to convert two buildings into housing units to help address homelessness. Commonwealth Companies is converting the former Northern Casket Company building on Brooke Street and a former cheese manufacturing plant on West Division Street into 62 residential, loft-style apartments. During his stop in Fond du Lac the governor also presented checks for projects in Neenah and Menasha and a $10 million grant for Winnebago County to address local housing needs, improvements to a local senior care facility, and a comprehensive community redevelopment initiative.
