The death toll from COVID-19 this week surpassed six million. The tragic number is believed to be a vast undercount and shows that the pandemic in its third year is far from done worldwide. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the number highlights that many countries are still struggling with the coronavirus. Overall, some 450 million cases of COVID-19 have been recorded. Mueller says this Friday marks the three year anniversary of the first COVID cases recorded in Fond du Lac County. There have been over 29,000 COVID-19 cases in Fond du Lac County and 220 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
