A special election will be held in June for Fond du Lac County executive following the unexpected death of Allen Buechel. Buechel died over the weekend from an apparent heart attack at the age of 74. At an emergency meeting Monday the Fond du Lac County Committee on Committees scheduled a special Fond du Lac County Board session for Wednesday evening to officially call the special election for June 7. If at least three people are running for the office a primary election will be held in May. Acting County executive and county board chair, Marty Farrell says the winner would fill the remainder of the term through 2025. Farrell, who is not running for reelection in April, will recommend an appointment to the county board for an acting county executive before the special election.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
