Fond du Lac County residents including co-workers and dignitaries are remembering Allen Buechel as a humble leader who will be greatly missed. Funeral services were held Saturday for Buechel who died March 27 from a heart attack at the age of 74. Waldschmidt says he was amazed at Buechel’s ability incredible memory and ability to retain information about topics and people. “His mind was a steel trap, I don’t know how else to explain it,” Waldschmidt told WFDL news. “He remembered people, he remembered topics. How he kept it all up there. all in place and in order I don’t know but that all goes to show how big of a loss he is to the county.” Former chairman of the Republican Party of Fond du Lac County Rohn Bishop says when he thinks of Allen Buechel he thinks of Fond du Lac County. “I think of Al Buechel of Fond du Lac County more than anyone alive and he showed that with his many years of service,” Bishop said. Buechel was first elected to the county board in 1976 and first elected county executive in 1993.
