An area lawmaker has been appointed to a new Wisconsin Agricultural Export Advisory Council. Republican state senator Joan Ballweg of Markesan has been named an ex-officio member of the council. The council will help guide initiatives through the Wisconsin Initiative for Agricultural Exports, a collaborative project between the state Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to promote the export of Wisconsin’s dairy products. Wisconsin ag exports reached an all-time high of nearly $4 billion in 2021. Ballweg says she’s confident the state can build on that momentum by promoting Wisconsin ag products in the international marketplace.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
