Work is expected to begin this summer on a major project to repair the Fond du Lac Lakeside Park Lighthouse. The Lighthouse has been closed since last September when water damage to the inside upright wood members was discovered during routine maintenance. Public Works director Paul DeVries says an architectural engineer has been hired to develop plans and specifications for repairs. Repair work will include replacing the rotted wood studs, and rebuilding the outside siding to prevent rain and snow from getting inside. The project would also include new windows and repairing cracks in the stone base. The city has budgeted $200,000 for the project.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
