Fond du Lac area Radio Plus radio stations were recognized at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence Annual Awards Gala this past weekend in Madison. WFDL-AM, WFDL-FM and WTCX-FM were all judged in the Medium Market category. Nick Rusch took home first place for Best Sportscast for WFDL-AM. Rusch and Heather Robins also received an award for the Best Morning Show for their morning program on Sunny 97.7 FM. Gregg Owens and Keith Heisler were recognized for The Game Plan with Green Bay Packer AJ Dillon on WTCX. The program received an award for Best Sports Coverage. Terry Davis and Kerry Longrie received an award for Best Use of Social Media for their promotion of Daughtry at the Fond du Lac County Fair. WFDL News Director Greg Stensland received a total of five awards including two first place awards for his coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stensland won first place for his Continuing Coverage of the pandemic and first place for Best Coverage of the Pandemic Recovery. Stensland took home first place for Best Newscast for Sunny 97.7 FM. Stensland also won awards for Best Hard News and Best Spot News.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
