One of the hottest pop bands in the state of Wisconsin is a finalist in an online contest sponsored by Bubbl’R Sparkling Water. The Astronomers, comprised of Fond du Lac natives Ben Baker and Michael Stensland, along with Ike Holzmann and Josh Guy found out about a week ago that a video they submitted in May is one of 15 finalists nationwide in the competition. Lead singer Michael Stensland says now the public can vote online for who they think has the best entry. You can vote by logging on boostyourfuture.com. You can vote once a day through September 2. Third place is $5,000, second place is $10,000 and first place is $20,000. The Astronomers have several songs playing on radio stations in Wisconsin and throughout the country.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
