The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is joining other law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin to crack down on drunken driving. The Sheriff’s Office is stepping up patrol during the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign through Labor Day. Sheriff’s captain Bill Tadych says last year in Wisconsin there were more than 6300 alcohol-related crashes including 166 deaths. Tadych says four of the eight traffic fatalities in Fond du Lac County this year have been alcohol-related.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
