9-27-22 fdl county looking for new emergency management director after first choice backs out

Fond du Lac County is looking for a Communications and Emergency Management director after the person they hired changed his mind.  Waupun Fire Chief B.J. DeMaa has decided to stay in Waupun, a week before he was scheduled to take over for Bobbie Hicken who resigned after accepting a job in the private sector.  DeMaa told WFDL news when city officials asked if he would ever reconsider, and after talking  about issues like staffing items that need to be addressed moving forward, and grants coming down the pipeline for the city’s  EMR program he realized that his heart was in  the fire service.  DeMaa says his decision has nothing to do with Fond du Lac County government.  DeMaa has spent 20 years at the Waupun Fire Department,  the last eight years as Fire Chief.   Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Eric Halbach is the interim Fond du Lac County director of Communications.   County Executive Sam Kaufman is in the interim Emergency Management director.
