The Fond du Lac Salvation Army is looking for volunteers as the winter warming shelter is set to open next month. Salvation Army spokeswoman Connie Millard says the number of those experiencing homelessness in Fond du Lac has quadrupled in the last two years. Millard says the Salvation Army winter warming shelter opens November first. Millard says new this year a security guard will be on site each night. A warming shelter community liaison has been hired to help recruit and work with volunteers. A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
