The Fond du Lac County executive says the biggest issue addressed in a proposed 2023 county budget is health insurance for county employees. Sam Kaufman presented his first budget since being elected county executive earlier this year at Tuesday night’s county board meeting. The proposed budget includes a change in the insurance carrier to save money. Kaufman says the county is switching to Dean Health Care after the current carrier came back with a 19-percent or $2.4 million increase. Kaufman says the budget reflects the county “operating within it’s means.” Kaufman says public safety was a priority in the budget. He says some of the Sheriff’s Office budget requests were cut without impacting public safety. The county board is scheduled to adopt the budget in November.
