Firefighters from several departments battled a blaze that caused significant damage to the Eden Meat Market in the village of Eden. Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 9am Thursday. Fond du Lac County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says three employees who tried to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived were treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene. Waldschmidt says the fire started in a vent and quickly spread to bacon grease in the back of the building. The store posted on it’s Facebook page that it would be closed until further notice.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
