Republican Jerry O’Connor has been elected to the state assembly. O’Connor defeated Democrat Joe Lavrenz by nearly six thousand votes to win the 52nd District Assembly seat representing the Fond du Lac area. “It’s a pretty exciting opportunity,” O’Connor told WFDL news. “I care about the issues, I care about families, I care about what’s happening within society, and this is an opportunity to have a voice at a different level.” The retired bank president says he supports pro-life, family issues and universal school choice. He replaces Republican Jeremy Thiesfeldt who did not run for reelection.

A house fire near New Holstein claimed the life of a child. Shortly after 2am Wednesday firefighters were called to the scene on Honeymoon Hill Road near County Road T. A child in the home was pronounced dead at a hospital. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
